SOLENOID. COIL. MAGNETIC FIELD

SOLENOID | COIL | MAGNETIC FIELD

voltage, thus current, influence the value of the magnetic field

Description: Magnetic field created by a current in a COIL. RIGHT HAND RULE. Interactive free flash animation to show that the voltage, and thus the current, influence the value of the magnetic field.

Definition

Solenoid: type of electromagnet, the purpose of which is to generate a controlled magnetic field through a coil wound into a tightly packed helix. It produce a uniform magnetic field in a volume of space when an electric current is passed through it.

It's a coil whose length is substantially greater than its diameter.
